Over the weekend, Beyoncé’s BeyHive was abuzz online with delight over their queen’s recent movements under the public eye. On Saturday, January 21st, Beyoncé took part in an upscale performance in Dubai, commemorating the grand opening of Atlantis the Royal. Prefacing the performance, multiple news outlets, journalists, and celebrities were invited to join Beyoncé for an all-expense paid trip to enjoy the amenities and offerings the hotel had to offer, with a “once in a lifetime performance” included in the invitation-only package. Guests were in for a treat when Beyoncé took the stage to perform her numerous hits throughout her career (however, according to multiple sources, no songs were performed off her latest album release Renaissance). The guest list included figures from across mainstream culture such as Jay-Z, Kendall Jenner, Olivia Culpo, and many more.

As videos surfaced online of clips of the singer performing hits such as “Drunk in Love” and Countdown” in front of an expansive stage, the fanbase was sent into an immediate frenzy. The star performed alongside the all-female Firdaus Orchestra and stunned in Ukrainian designs in front of an enormous golden sun prop with water fountains and fireworks to round out the show. On Twitter, reactions varied from excitement to confusion; the singer has been abnormally quiet throughout her promotion (or lack thereof) of her latest album release in July, releasing no music videos or any plans to tour the album. The performance also marks the pop star’s first live concert performance since 2018’s Global Citizen Festival and a small performance in 2020 during a celebration of life for Kobe and Gianna Bryant. 2022 also showcased the singer providing a pre-recorded performance for the Oscars in support of the movie King Richard.

Some fans also had similar questions as to why Beyoncé performed a seemingly random concert in the Middle East, but according to TMZ, the star was paid an estimated $24 million for the hour set and event.

Other event highlights included Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy joining her mother onstage for a performance, and a VIP guest list that included Chloe x Halle, Rebel Wilson, and Nia Long. During the performance, guests were required to adhere to a strict no-phone policy, but restrictions were eased up during the after-party. Throughout the event’s duration, guests flaunted their attendance with pics alongside other celebrities and their enjoyment of the after-party, which boasted a performance by Swedish House Mafia. It can be assumed that if one is a figure with social media power or influence, or even respected by Beyoncé, then you were in attendance to the spectacle and getaway.

With the conclusion of the event, fans return to expecting more “Beyoncé – centered” announcements, such as an official tour announcement and the expansion of the Renaissance soundscape/world that will possibly follow last July’s release.
