Rakul Preet Talks About The Contrasting Body Standards In The Film Industriesne

Rakul Preet Singh began her career in the South Indian film industry before making her Bollywood debut in 2014 with Yaariyan. But the adjustment was difficult because she needed to lose weight. She was instructed to gain weight in the south, but when she arrived in Mumbai, she was instructed to drop weight.

Rakul was recently featured on Shilpa Shetty’s talk program Shape of You. Shilpa talked about her experience working in the south, and how she was told she was too slim.

Rakul talked, “When I debuted, Samantha (Ruth Prabhu) and Kajal (Aggarwal) were already stars, and they were fit. I think people became conscious about how they look on the screen because the content was being consumed everywhere.”

Rakul told Shilpa that was called too skinny in the film industry of the south but when she came to Bombay, she was asked to lose ounces of it. Shilpa asked Rakul what her experience was like. Rakul replied, “When I debuted, Samantha (Ruth Prabhu) and Kajal (Aggarwal) were already stars, and they were fit. I think people became conscious about how they looked on the screen because the content was being consumed everywhere. I lost 10 kgs in 50 days, and I didn’t think I was 10 kgs overweight, but I was.” 

Rakul will soon be seen in the comedy Chhatriwali. In the film, she plays the supervisor of quality control at a condom manufacturing. She will also appear in films starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Indra Kumar’s Thank God starring Sidharth Malhotra, and Akshay Kumar’s Mission Cinderella.
