BREAKING THE GLASS CEILING PROGRAM FOR PRACTICING WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS
The US Consulate Kolkata and the Global Innovation Lab of the University of Texas at Austin had launched a unique program from 2019 to 2021 to promote technology adoption among women entrepreneurs in the North East and Eastern states of India. The program is providing three integrated experiences to help women entrepreneurs understand the potential of their specific business ideas and work on their challenges of scaling up:
Online training: Following an orientation session, Women Entrepreneurs selected for the program took a six-week online course, “Innovation Readiness Series®”.
Bootcamp: Following completion of the online course, selected 30 women entrepreneurs progressed to phase 2 of the program and before the in-person bootcamp was conducted, the Covid-19 pandemic caused a nation-wide lockdown. However, the women entrepreneurs underwent a series of webinars and online mentoring sessions; some of them collaborated to create stronger businesses while others pivoted their business models. All these women entrepreneurs will meet for an intense weekend Bootcamp at the American Center, Kolkata as soon as business will return to normal.
Pitch your enterprise: Further selection of 15 participants to present their innovations at a “Shark-Tank” Pitch Session to a panel of Indian strategic investors at the American Center, Kolkata.
Watch out for the entrepreneurial journey of our women entrepreneurs NandinI, Sahida, Sharda and Sujata.

We are excited to announce that the U.S. Consulate General Kolkata in partnership with Asian Confluence think tank is launching the first Women’s Global Development Prosperity (W-GDP) Initiative “Academy for Women Entrepreneurs” (AWE) in Northeast India.
