According to the American cancer society, the lifetime risk of developing lung cancer is approximately 1 in 16 for men and 1 in 17 for women.
However, in recent times, this formidable adversary is witnessing a remarkable turning point with groundbreaking advancements in treatment strategies and recoups techniques. Researchers and medical professionals have made remarkable strides in understanding the underlying biology and genetics of lung cancer. This knowledge has led to the development of targeted therapies that specifically address the unique characteristics of each patient’s cancer.
Immunotherapy, a trailblazing approach, has harnessed the body’s immune system to identify and combat cancer cells effectively. Even with the free-of-cost availability of chemotherapy and gefitinib, a considerable number of patients still abandon treatment due to predisposed apprehensions.
Thus, to improve clinical outcomes and reduce the disease burden, it is essential to address barriers to access and ensure that all patients have equal opportunities to benefit from these groundbreaking advancements. Public awareness and mass education can help remove the stigma associated with lung cancer treatment ensuring proper delivery and adherence to available therapies.
