Deepawali

Festival of lights,

cleaning up, brightening homes

Mythological tales abound

Return of Ram from forest

Defeating Ravan

Krishna killing Narakasura

Kali symbolic of women empowerment

In essence defeat of evil

Triumph of good; time to celebrate.

Today surrounded by evil

Negativity all around, we feel

Thoughts words actions seem only

To cause harm, not happiness

Jealousy the virus eating the insides

Greed the parasite, causing illness

Hatred the worm spreading disease

We need lots and lots of godly light

Illumination,to dispel this darkness

Where will it come from?

Look within, you have not lost it

switch on the bulb of kindness,

Light the lamp of joy for others

Spark the candle of care.

Fight the jealousy with silence

The negativity with smiles

Retort not with sharp words

But with actions of happiness.

Smile, hug, praise, love

The evil will sulk, retreat slink away

Let us try, please let us try!

Give, share, create the climate

Of Deepawali, of rejoicing exultation,

Of radiance of colour, in true spirit.
