Jayashree Vijay Mohan, a Chennai-based mountaineer, entrepreneur, and mother of two, has set two Guinness World Records for the fastest ascent and descent of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak, under the CIH category. While the milestone itself is significant, it is the journey behind it, shaped by a life-altering setback and a steady process of rebuilding, that makes it truly remarkable.
In October 2021, she experienced a sudden stroke that altered her life completely. Everyday actions had to be relearned, and recovery became a gradual, disciplined process of rebuilding both physically and mentally. Progress came in small steps, requiring patience, consistency, and a shift in perspective.

During this phase, she adopted a simple approach that guided her through the process – avolo daan, meaning to accept and move forward.
Mountaineering became a part of this journey not out of prior pursuit, but as a goal during rehabilitation. It gave structure to her recovery and a direction to work towards. Over time, it evolved into a way to push her limits and understand her own capacity again.
With consistent training and preparation, she went on to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, completing the ascent in 5 days and 6.5 hours and the descent in 10 hours and 26 minutes, becoming a two-time Guinness World Record holder and marking a significant milestone in her journey.
At its core, her story reflects a steady process of rebuilding, choosing to move forward with clarity, one step at a time. For her, this milestone is not the destination, but just the beginning of what lies ahead.
