VINTAGE LOVE

Spread the love

“Life is the flower for which Love is the honey” Victor Hugo

Love is an emotional feeling, a perennial source of energy that enriches one’s life and is a lifelong celebration.  It is the essence and root of anyone’s married life. Love based on mere physical attraction is just an infatuation which fades away with time. Real Love is like Vintage wine which ripens with age. It is a bud that blossoms into a flower when a man and woman get married and spreads its fragrance and warmth in their hearts throughout their life.

In my own life I have experienced it. Mine was an arranged marriage and I got married young.  Our love started blooming after our marriage.  We didn’t have any expectations from each other for any material gifts to express our love. We had a tough life in the initial years due to family commitments and exigencies of my husband’s profession. He rose from the ranks to become a Commissioned Officer in the Indian Air Force.

After eight years of marriage, I realized that I need to qualify myself so I could get employed to supplement the family income. I studied privately and became a Post Graduate teacher at the age of 32 and we were able to raise and educate our three children very well. They are all married and well settled with their families today. Our mutual love, respect and understanding only have brought us this achievement.

Our love had remained steadfast throughout our life, and we had been real soul mates. Once I was away from him for more than one year. On my return, his first words on receiving me at the airport were ‘Now the void in my heart is filled.’  I felt as if I attained Heavenly Bliss.  Today he isn’t physically alive but is always with me spiritually in my heart. He always said, “I am nobody without you”, He had been the anchor of my life and his words a tonic which rejuvenated me at times of crisis.  His sonorous voice calling me by my name keeps ringing in my ears even today like the music of the Solitary Reaper which remained in the heart of the poet William Wordsworth.

Love has undoubtedly enriched our life and shown that this feeling becomes sweeter with age and can be named Vintage Love.
